An Analysis of Pre-Service Teachers' Values Education Activities and Diaries
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze values education activities and diaries of social studies pre-service teachers. 12 pre-service teachers participated to study who attended the course named Values Education in Social Studies in spring term of 2010-2011 academic year. Document analysis technique was used in the study. Data source of the study were values education activity plans and diaries of pre-service teachers. At the end of the analysis, it was seen that pre-service teachers paid attention to explain "values intended to be acquired", "teaching approaches and methods", "instructional tools", and "assessment" in their activity plans. Pre-service teachers' diaries revealed that they observe and try to understand values in their society. Diaries presented five main themes as "values in social life", globalization and values", "cultural values", "applying values to daily life" and "teachers' role in values education". According to results of the study, it can be said that pre-service teachers were aware importance of values in social life.
