Solvent Materials
Özet
This article reviews the solvent materials which are either used as fuels and fuel additives, to increase fuel quality depending on the used field and to obtain synthetic oxygenated fuel. Although fossil fuels are the dominant energy resource of the modern world, a number of solvents such as alcohols and ketones have been used as fuels throughout history and their importance are increasing since alcohols can be produced from renewable resources. Four alcohols are suitable to use as fuel: methanol, ethanol, propanol, and butanol. Methanol and ethanol are the most suited from a practical point of view due to their production methods. Methanol and ethanol as well as butanol are also produced for using as fuels. Bioethanol has been applied as one of the biofuels in automobiles with gasoline in different proportions. Research about raw material, production methods, fuel properties of the conventional and bio solvents are discussed
