Dictation Activities in Reading and Writing Instruction

Abstract

Yapılan araştırmada ilk okuma yazma öğretiminde dikte çalışmalarına ilişkin sınıf öğretmenlerinin görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Nitel araştırma yaklaşımı benimsenerek gerçekleştirilen araştırmanın katılımcıları, 2011-2012 Öğretim Yılı Bahar Dönemi 'nde Eskişehir merkezindeki ilköğretim okullarının birinci sınıf larında görev yap an sınıf öğretmenlerinden oluşmaktadır. Açık uçlu sorular yoluyla top lanan nitel veriler, betimsel analiz tekniği kullanılarak çözümlenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda, öğretmenlerin dikteye ilişkin f arklı tanımlamalar yap tıkları belirlenmiş ve diktenin ses, harf ve sözcüklerin hatasız öğrenilmesi, def ter kullanmayı öğrenme gibi beceriler kazandıran yararlı bir etkinlik olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra öğretmenler, dikte çalışmalarında yap tıkları etkinliklere ve yaşadıkları sorunlara ilişkin öneriler getirmiştir.

In the study, it is aimed to determine the views of p rimary school teachers on dictation activities which are used f or reading and writing instruction. The p articip ants of the study, which has adop ted qualitative research app roach, include the teachers who taught the f irst grade students at the p rimary schools in the city center of Eskişehir in 2011-2012 school year. The qualitative data which were collected through op en-ended questions have been analyzed by using descrip tive analysis technique. In line with the obtained f indings, it is determined that the teachers def ine dictation diff erently and concluded that it is an educatory activity which brings p up ils in various skills such as correct learning of alp habet sounds, letters and words; and notebook use. Moreover, some suggestions on the activities and diff iculties which teachers do and exp erience during dictation are made.
