Vatandaşlık Eğitimi Bakımından Sosyal Bilgilerin Toplumsal Gücü

Abstract

Sosyal bilgiler dersi ile bireylerin toplumsallaşması, içinde yaşadıkları toplumun sorunlarına duyarlı bireyler olarak yetişmesi sağlanmaya çalışılmaktadır. Bir başka deyişle sosyal bilgiler dersinin toplumu de- ğiştirme, geliştirme gibi toplumsal bir gücü vardır. Bu araştırmada sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının görüşlerine göre vatandaşlık eğitiminde sosyal bilgiler dersinin toplumsal gücü ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla 115 sınıf öğretmeni adayına açık uçlu anket uygulanmış, elde edilen veriler içerik analizi tekniği ile çözümlenmiştir. Öğretmen adayları vatandaşlık eğitiminde sosyal bilgilerin toplumsal gücünü vatandaşlık eğitimine yönelik konuların toplumu güçlendirmeye hizmet etmesi, vatandaşlık eğitimine yönelik kazanımların toplumu oluşturan bireylere kazandırılması biçiminde açıklamışlardır. Sosyal bilgiler dersi yaşamı kolaylaştırarak, hakların korunmasını sağlayarak, toplumsal düzeni artırarak toplumsal yaşama yön vermektedir. Öğretmen adaylarının kimileri öğrencilerin haklarını kullanarak, sosyal etkinliklere katılım göstererek, güncel olayları izleyerek sosyal bilgiler dersinde vatandaşlık ile ilgili edindikleri bilgi, beceri ve değerlerin kullandığını belirtmişlerdir. Kimi öğretmen adayları da toplumda yaşanılan olumsuz davranışların artması nedeniyle sosyal bilgiler dersinde vatandaşlık ile ilgili edindikleri bilgi, beceri ve değerlerin yaşamda yeterince kullanılmadığı biçiminde görüş belirtmişlerdir. Öğretmen adayları sosyal bilgiler dersi ile toplumu kaynaştırmak üzere okul-toplum ilişkisini sağlayan yöntem ve teknikleri kullanma, derse aile katılımı sağ- lama, güncel olay öğretimi gerçekleştirme gibi çalışmalar gerçekleştirecekleri yönünde de görüş belirtmişlerdir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre vatandaşlık eğitiminde sosyal bilgilerin toplumsal gücünü artırmak üzere sosyal bilgiler dersinde çeşitli etkinliklerin düzenlenebileceği söylenebilir

With social studies course, it is aimed to socialize the individuals and train them as the ones sensitive to the problems of the society. In other words, social studies course has such a social power as to change and develop the society which is made up of the individuals. In the present study, the social power of social studies course in citizenship education depending on the prospective elementary school teachers’ views has been put forth. So, an open-ended questionnaire was applied to 115 prospective elementary school teachers and the data obtained were analyzed using the content analysis technique. Prospective elementary school teachers explained the social power of social studies in citizenship education as the the citizenship education-related subjects’ helping to strengthen the society and redounding the objectives regarding the citizenship education to the individuals. Social Studies course leads the social life making life easier, protecting the rights and increasing the social order. Some of the prospective teachers stated that they used knowledge, skills and values related with citizenship acquired in social studies course. On the other hand, some others indicated that knowledge, skills and values related with citizenship acquired in social studies course were not being used enough due to the increase in negative behaviours in society. Prospective teachers stated that to unite the society via the social studies course, they would use methods and techniques yielding school-society relation and conduct studies ensuring family participation in the course and teach the contemporary issues. According to the research results, it can be said that various activities can be organized in social studies course to increase the social power of social studies in citizenship education
