Essential oil of satureja spicigera (C. Koch) Boiss. From Turkey
Abstract
Water-distilled essential oils from herbal parts of Satureja spicigera collected from five different localities in Turkey were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Twenty-eight compounds representing 92.38–96.55% of the oils were characterized. Thymol (19.57–34.85%), p-cymene (9.13–34.08%), carvacrol (1.90–26.09%), methyl carvacrol (5.70–21.17%) and ?-terpinene (3.35–14.65%) were identified as major constituents. Dried leaves of this plant are used as condiment, as a substitute of thyme, and known as “Trabzon Kekigi” in northeastern part of Turkey neighboring Black Sea
