Abstract
This study aims to find out the views of teachers on the necessity and usefulness of special days and weeks celebrated in primary schools. The scope of the study based on survey model is the teachers in primary schools in the province of Eskişehir. The subjects are 520 teachers in three schools chosen considering their socio-economic conditions from seven education districts within the scope of the study. A questionnaire was designed by the researcher to collect data. Frequencies and means cores were calculated in the analysis of the data. The results of the study suggest that the most necessary and useful one for the primary school teachers is Atatürk week. Besides, teachers considered special days and weeks celebrated in primary schools more necessary when compared to its usefulness. According to the teachers, special days and weeks to celebrate, their taking too much time, lack of enough time for celebrations, lack of good planning for the organization in advance, lack of student interest and the belief that these days and weeks are unbeneficial are reasons why such social activities cannot be organized in the way expected.
