Sosyal Bilgiler Dersinde Güncel Olayların Kullanımının Öğrenci Başarısına ve Hatırda Tutma Düzeyine Etkisi

Abstract

Sosyal Bilgiler öğretiminin iyi ve etkili vatandaş yetiştirme gibi temel amaçlarına ulaşabilmesi öğrencilerin dünü, bugünü ve geleceği anlamalarına yardımcı olmasını sağlayan güncel olayların kullanımını gündeme getirmektedir. Araştırmanın temel amacı, “Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde güncel olayların kullanımının öğrenci başarısına ve hatırda tutma düzeyine etkisini” belirlemektir. Araştırmada, verilerin toplanmasında nicel ve nitel veri toplama yöntemleri birlikte kullanılarak karma yönteme yer verilmiştir. Araştırmada, Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde güncel olayların kullanımının öğrenci başarısına ve hatırda tutma düzeyine etkisini” sınamak amacıyla deneme modellerinden “ön test-son test kontrol gruplu model” uygulanmıştır. Öğrencilerin Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde güncel olayların kullanımına ilişkin görüşlerini belirlemek üzere açık uçlu bir anket uygulanmıştır. Nicel verilerin çözümlenmesinde gruplar arası karşılaştırmalarda t testinden yararlanılmış ve anlamlılık düzeyi .05 olarak benimsenmiştir. Nitel verilerin çözümlenmesinde ise betimsel analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma ile Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde, güncel olayların kullanımının öğrencilerin başarıları ve bilgileri hatırlama düzeylerini artırmada etkili olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca öğrenciler Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde güncel olayların kullanımına ilişkin olumlu görüşler bildirmişlerdir.

The usage of current events in social studies courses help students to interpret the past, the present, and the future is necessary in order to achieve its main goals such as raising good and efficient citizens. The main purpose of this research is to determine the effects of using current events in Social Studies Courses over students' retaining knowledge and their overall success”. Composite method has been used in this study since both quantitative and qualitative data collection procedures were utilized. In this research, pre-test and post-test control group model” has been used to examine the effects of using current events in Social Studies Courses over students' retaining knowledge and their overall success”. A questionnaire containing open-ended questions was administered to students in order to determine their opinions regarding the use of current events in Social Studies Courses. During the analysis of quantitative data, t test was applied for comparisons across groups, and the significance level determined was .05. On the other hand, descriptive analysis method was administered for the analysis of qualitative data. Findings have revealed that the usage of current events in Social Studies Courses is effective in increasing retaining of knowledge and success of students. Furthermore, students have indicated positive opinions concerning the usage of current events in Social Studies Courses.
