Relationship between lysotypes and antibiotic resistance profiles of uropathogenic Escherichia coli [UROPATOJEN ESCHERICHIA COLI'LERDE LIZOTIPLER VE ANTIBIYOGRAM PROFILLERI ARASINDAKI ILISKI]
Abstract
Bacteriophage typing and antibiotic susceptibility test were carried out on 96 Escherichia coli isolated from patients having urinary tract infection in Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine Hospital. Forty-seven different lysotypes were determined by using 22 bacteriophages and 40 isolates tested could not be typed. The highest resistance was determined against ampicillin in strains isolated from both hospitalized patients and out-patients. None of the strains tested exhibited resistance against imipenem and ciprofloxacin. In strains isolated from hospitalized patients, considerable increment in resistance against all antimicrobics except netilmycin and cephaclor was observed. No correlation was determined between the lysotypes and the antibiotic profiles.
