Development of Clinical Engineering Units and Evaluation of the Organization in Public Hospitals
Abstract
Educational opportunities in the field of biomedical engineering and biomedical technician have been increased today. The concept of clinical engineering was born and gain a rapid development stage due to the employment of personnel trained in this area in health facilities. The importance of clinical engineering units that provide or control purchasing of medical equipment, checking and acceptance procedures, maintenance and calibration services in hospitals increases day by day. In this study, role of the clinical engineering unit on the operation and development of the technical and biomedical infrastructure of health institutions is firstly highlighted. Also, unit configurations in public hospitals, operation formats, problems in the development process and solutions are discussed. Current situation and operational structure of the clinical engineering, a joint point of engineering and medical science, in public hospitals with differs from units in other institutions are evaluated. At the end of the study, benefits and development of clinical engineering units in public hospitals were presented.
