Fixed-bed pyrolysis experiments have been conducted on samples from synthetic blends of Seyitomer oil shale and lignites to determine the possibility of being a potential source of fuels and chemical feedstocks. The effects of different ratios of Seyitomer oil shale-lignite pyrolysis temperature on the pyrolysis product yield and chemical composition have been investigated. The maximum oil yield of 32% was obtained at a pyrolysis temperature of 520 degrees C for 99 wt% oil shale content. Relatively small but significant synergistic effects have been observed between lignites and the oil shales investigated. Oil yields decreased as the lignite content increased from 0 to 100%. Yields of gas, water, and shale consumed also varied linearly. H/C atomic ratios of the resulting oils varied from 1.8292 to 1.4826. The yield of light gases increased with the final temperature of pyrolysis. Chemical characterization has shown that the oil obtained from blends of oil shales and lignites was quite similar to that of crude oil.en_US
