An investigation into bloating behaviour of bone China body during biscuit firing
Abstract
Amongst many studies on the textural, mineralogical and physical changes during biscuit firing of whiteware bodies, this paper attempts to investigate the bloating behaviour of a commercial bone china body during biscuit firing. In order to achieve this, representative test samples were shaped by uniaxial pressing and biscuit fired at various temperatures for different heating rates and soaking times. The resultant microstructures were investigated using XRD and SEM techniques. A special etching technique was also used in order to observe the microstructural evolution of the body with changing firing regime.
