Mutual interaction of radio world and fan pages on Facebook
Abstract
Recently, user generated internet contents such as MySpace, MSN Spacers, Blogger, YouTube and Twitter have had an extremely fast development. Development and expanded use of social networking sites such as Facebook has resulted in a form of mass communication tool, the radio also gained benefits from the process. Creation of fan pages over Facebook fulfilled many expectations related with reminding the potential of the radio. The aim of this study is to clarify the use of Facebook by audiences and interaction between audiences and the radio presenter. There are also fan pages of several Turkish radio stations and the radio presenters in Facebook. Within scope of current study, in the period between 21 March 2010 and 17 April 2010, both radio shows and fan page in the Facebook of Nihat Sirdar were followed. Efforts were made to discuss whether messages sent to the relevant fan page were reflected in the show of the radio presenter and whether such type of an interaction was present between the radio presenter and the audience. An in-depth interview was also made with Nihat Sirdar in order to include the perspective of the radio presenter in the study in addition to the radio shows and messages in the Facebook fan page
