Composition of the essential oils of Viscum album L. Subspecies from Turkey
Abstract
The extracts from three Viscum album subspecies obtained by Simultaneous Distillation-Extraction (SDE) using Likens-Nickerson apparatus, were analyzed by GC/MS. 34 compounds representing 89.2% of the essential oil V.album subsp. album, 63 compounds representing 95.9% of the essential oil V.album subsp. austriacum and 61 compounds representing 94.5% of the essential oil V.album subsp. abietis were characterized. The major components of the essential oil of V.album subsp. album were (E)-2-hexenal (10.2%), cedrol (8.9%), thymol (8.3%), and linalool (6.8%), the major components of the essential oil of V.album subsp. austriacum were octanoic acid (7.4%) and nonanoic acid (6.7%). On the other hand, limonene (11.3%), octanoic acid (5.6%) and nonanoic acid (6.2%) were found as main constituents in the essential oil of V.album subsp.abietis.
