Antioxidant properties of halotolerant Penicillium chrysogenum var. chrysogenum secondary metabolites
Abstract
In this study it was aimed at evaluating antioxidant potential of Penicillium sp. broth filtrate and extract. In our study we examined broth filtrate DPPH and free radical scavenging activity, and also total phenol content (Folin ciocalteu reagent). We used 38 fungi samples in our study. We selected free radical scavenging activity over 70% in one fungi among them. In parallel with these results total phenol substance content was quite high, too. Phenolic acids in ethyl acetate extract were determined with HPLC by comparing with standards. As a result of the classical and molecular identification of the type whose antioxidant and total phenol amounts were high, it was detected that it was Penicillium chrsogenum var. chrysogenum. According to these results natural antioxidants gained from fungi are very essential resources in terms of biotechnology.
