Design Workshops and Their Importance in Contemporary Design Education
Abstract
In this study, workshops, as a non-formal education practice, have been reviewed in terms of limitations, advantages, disadvantages, duration, issues, locations, participants and regulatory qualities. Examples from important events in Turkey were introduced, the importance of workshops in design education was addressed and the opinions of the trainers on this issue were included. It is accepted by many educators that the features we expect to have a designer in the age of information can not be gained only by the formal education system, but that some can only be gained in non-formal educational settings. It was emphasized that the workshops should be integrated into the education system, information should be given to the students about the organizations that carried out the workshops and that the students should be encouraged to access these activities.
