Teaching Staff Habits of Online Translation Tools Usage
Abstract
As the world becomes a stage of technological development, we also recognize the side effects on the support of technology for assisting the teaching process at the universities. The academic teaching staff increasingly prefer to use educational technology in the contemporary classrooms. In general we are witness of the changing scopes and standards caused by todays technological development. It is very clear that the German as foreign language teacher have to bring digital advances into their classrooms. The academic staff also knows that the students use computers in their own studies, therefore they tend to use in specific online translation tools in the classrooms, too. From this perspective the online translation tools are new materials for the foreign language teaching academic staff. How high is the success of these translation engines ? and what about the habits of the German language teaching staff to the online translation tools. Can we recognize significant differences between the online translation and the translations of the academic teaching staff which can effect the habit to use online translation tools in the classrooms by the academic teaching staff. First, the academic staff were asked to talk about their translation experiences with babel fish translation tool. Then, the researcher debriefed the processes and forms the survey which findings will evaluated in this paper.. This study presents the online translation habits of German language teaching staff of the Anadolu University. Experience related information's are collected by using an survey in a Turkish context.
