The Importance of Project-Based Applications for Effective Photography Teaching Process
Abstract
The photograph is one of the important subject of fine and applied arts and an important medium for mass communication. Nowadays, photograph is very popular profession tool. Because of digital technology, taking photograph is easier than yesterday. On the other hand, because of this common interest, photography education became more important. For this reason a special project was implemented at Anadolu University with the partnership of Odunpazari Region's Municipality, in Eskisehir, in Turkey. Under the Basic Photography Applications Course, at The Faculty of Communication Science, the students started to work on a special project. According to project, the students diveded into four groups. And each group has its private lecturer. These four groups of students worked in a historical area of the city of Eskisehir which name is Odunpazari. This region was established during the Ottoman Empire Period. Students took different photos in this historical habitat such as pinhole camera applications, portraits of some selected people, day and night scene of the region and interior life of the old houses. Finally, At the end of the course, this project's photographs are going to use by The Municipality of Odunpazari region for producing a photographic book and some other project. These kind of project-based applications are important for students interest and motivation.
