20Th Century Industrial Ceramic Teapots Produced in Europe in Terms of Colour, Decoration and Form
Abstract
Aesthetic concern in ceramics products, which has turned into an artistic phenomenon in time, has always existed. Apart from aesthetic concern, function that is expected from the product brings the ergonomic factor along. It is known that the ceramic teapots occurred in parallel with the discovery of tea. The sense of design reached a different dimension with the occurrence of new artistic movements and the advantages of developments, which are, in other words, kind of mechanical, in the world in the 20th century. In this article, ceramic teapots produced in Europe in the 20th century were considered within ten-year periods from 1900 to 2000 and evaluated in terms of color, decor and form in the historical process. The changes in the ceramic teapot designs analyzed chronologically have been investigated in terms of the culture, geography, technology of the countries where they were produced as well as the perceptions and trends in art at that time. The analysis reveals that ceramic teapots industrially produced in Europe show varieties in terms of design, color and decor, being influenced by the technology, commerce and trends in art.
