Overlapping Decompositions and Controller Design for Neutral Distributed-time-delay Systems
Abstract
Controller design using overlapping decompositions for large-scale neutral distributed-time-delay systems is considered. It is shown how an overlappingly decomposed neutral distributed-time-delay system can be expanded so that the expanded system is an extension of the original system. Since the overlapping subsystems of the original system appear as disjoint in the expanded spaces, decentralized controllers are then designed for the expanded system. These controllers are contracted for implementation on the original system in the final phase. If the controller designed for the expanded system achieves stability and desired performance for the expanded system, then the contracted controller achieves stability and desired performance for the original system. The advantages of the proposed approach are two fold. First, it allows design of independent decentralized controllers for each subsystem; second, the contracted controller has an overlapping decentralized structure, which may be desired in many applications
