Uses of basalt in floor tile
Abstract
Basalt is an igneous rock composed primarily of calcic plagioclase and pyroxene, with or without olivine. In this study, basalt was added to a standard ceramic floor tile body composition in different proportions ranging from 0 to 45% as a flux, and compared with the standard body in terms of physical properties. With the addition of basalt in floor tile, higher firing strength and lower water absorption values were obtained. The results were evaluated according to the TS EN ISO 176 BI standard. It was found that the resultant sintered tiles have better physical and mechanical properties.
