Strategic Diversity Management Initiatives: A Descriptive Study

The study presents a brief literature on diversity management, affirmative action, and equal employment opportunity concepts perspectives, and explores how diversity management takes place in the hotel industry via websites of the biggest hotel groups in Turkey. Recent strategic human resources strategies have reoriented from addressing the average employee stereotype to the employee with diversified skills, backgrounds, cultural competencies and the effects of globalization identities, organization are confronted with the challenge of recognizing and managing diversity. In the study, diversity related human resource management statements and diversity management statements within the given literature are taken into account and interpreted. Data suggests that regarding preceding studies, the biggest hotels groups in Turkey generally do not communicate with the internal and external shareholders about diversity-related issues. Out of 15 entities, only one organization with domestic-based capital has mentioned statements and all the foreign capital organizations have in their websites, but not in Turkish.

Workforce diversity imposes itself as an imperative for organizations. Hence, today's organizations distinguish the diversified workforce as a tool to leverage business opportunities. In order to acquire a competitive advantage from human resources, diversity management comes to the front for all organizations. Managing diversity successfully requires a proper diversity climate for employees in all levels of organizations. This study reports the findings of a research study on the diversity climate among employees of a hotel chain. Both the t-test and one way ANOVA tests predict the perception of employees. The results show that diversity perceptions of employees predominantly depend on managerial status.

Nowadays consumers consider health benefits as an important purchasing factor for food products and prefer health-enhancing foods. Recently various companies have started to introduce new functional foods to the Turkish market. The aim of this study is to explore the responses of women to junctional foods in Turkey. Purchase frequency, knowledge level, perceived effects of various functional food products are explored in this study. Respondents who regularly use any of the functional products are very low. A total evaluation of the attitudes towards functional products has revealed that respondents aren't convinced about the benefits of these products and they seem confused.
