Sanat ve biimin kesişiminde bir yerleştirme sanatçısı: James Turrell

Abstract

Bilim ve sanat, bilinmeyeni ve yeni olanı keşfetmek için önemli iki konudur. Her iki konunun da en önemli özelliği öncelikle hayal edebilme temeline dayalı olmalarıdır. Günümüzde çağdaş bilim anlayışı, çağdaş sanat anlayışında olduğu gibi, yaratıcılıkla beslenmektedir. İnsanın doğal yapısında olan merak, inceleme ve gözlem gibi özellikler sayesinde bilim ve sanat varlığını sürdürmeye devam edecektir. Turrell’ın çalışmalarındaki ayrıntılı bilimsel hesaplar, duygusal derinliklerle birleştiğinde ortaya çıkan eserler, sanatın ve bilimin birbirinden ayrı düşünülemeyeceğinin en güzel örneklerindendir. Kurguladığı enstalasyonlarında yarattığı çarpıcı etki, bilimin ve sanatın dengeli birlikteliğinin bir ifadesidir. Bu yazıda, yaşamdaki bir denge unsuru olan sanat ve bilim konusu, sanatçı James Turrell’ın çalışmalarından seçme örneklerle ele alınmaktadır.

Art and science, two important subjects to discover the unknown and the new. Most significant common characteristic of both topics is that they rely on the basic of the ability to dream. Contemporary science understanding of today, as in the contemporary understanding of art, is being fed by creativity. As long as curiosity, examination and observation exist as the natural properties of human beings, art and science will continue to exist. The art pieces where depths of emotions combining with detailed scientific calculations in Turrel’s works, are the best examples to show art and science could not be thought separately. The striking effect of his installations, is the expression of the balanced cooperation of science and art.
