The student teachers' perceptions and suggestions about the factors influencing reading habits [Ögretmen adaylarinin okuma alişkanliklarini etkileyen etmenlere ilişkin görüş ve önerileri]

Teachers, who are one of the main elements of education system and who train individuals to shape society, have important effects on students' attitudes towards reading. Teachers are expected to gain reading habits to be model to their students and to develop themselves at individual and professional dimensions. In this context, it is important to research the effects which influence reading habits of student teachers. The main aim of this study is to determine the views of student teachers about the effects which influence their reading habits. The data of the research was obtained from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade student teachers, who were attending to teacher training program at Anadolu University, Faculty of Education in 2005-2006 academic year in spring term. Qualitative research method was used in this study. Data collected by an instrument with open-ended questions was analyzed with descriptive analyses to determine the views and opinions of student teachers. The results were discussed under the titles of scientific and social activities which was organized at university, instruction teaching process applied at faculty and attitudes of lecturers, library services of university, communication and interaction with friends, mass media and socio - economic effects which influence their reading habits in a positive or negative way, as well as description and indicators of reading habits.
